    hard-drive dependence??

Hi, I'm having some technical difficulties here... my dad plugged my sister's harddrive into his computer, and it worked fine. Then, he unplugged it, and everything now runs super slow (boots slow, takes 4ever to get into My Computer, EZ cd creator has issues, and there's a phantom harddrive in My computer). Does anybody know of a short answer why?

    define "phantom harddrive".

When he plugged the other HD into your computer, was it made the master or just a slave?

Check your device manager and if your sister's drive is still showing up in there, try and remove the device. Also, check the BIOS, maybe it is looking for the drive.

Heh, phantom harddrive is actually phantom CD drive, I found out later It shows up in My Computer but doesn't do anything when you try to go into it. Device manager was the 1st thing I tried, but it didn't show up. I think it was slave. But, for some reason, I managed to fix the problem by setting the drive letters for CD-ROM and CD-RW back to D: and E: After that I rebooted, and the comp ran back at full speed (?) and the phantom CD drive disappeared, and everything's back to normal. I think I'd better switch to Windows XP or Linux soon

No idea... I was actually just looking for a cute, fluffy non-biting looking cat, to go with my title Symbolically, it represents Winsock.
