    boot.ini

    Ok. So I had Red Hat Linux 7.2 on my computer for a while partioned with Windows (Ruined my harddrive somehow) and I had to reinstall Windows and clean the harddrive. But I'm afraid to restart my computer. I keep getting 2 warning when my computer boots up. First one is that keyboard error. The second is an invalid boot.ini. Anyhow to fix this because I cringe when I have to restart my computer

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    I'm pretty much certain the k/board error has nothing to do w/ your boot.ini

    If it's XP your using, you could rebuild the boot.ini by booting off the XP CD, choose recovery and at the prompt give this command:

    bootcfg /rebuild

    Most probably you will loose the entry to choose your Linux to boot from, and I'm afraid you'll have to do that "dd if=..." again.

    Just a suggestion here, why not give the latest, RHL 9, a try instead of that aging 7.2? Or you could always choose Mandrake 9 or 9.1..

    Hope this helps

    I think 7.3+ were the ones with BlueCurve, some people dont like it. I do.

    If windows does kill the mbr RedHat does have a recovery cd. You can just mount / and /sbin/lilo again. I dont know what you do with GRUB.

    Well, if you want the latest try Gentoo . Beware of the new cds.

    mart man00,

    The 'unified theme' Bluecurve first appeared w/ RHL 8 really and I like it too, only that you have less chances to tweak how it appears, unlike what we get w/ RHL 7.3. Eye candies are not really that important anyway.
