Three on an IDE

Hi all,
I'm about to build my new system and I was wondering if it's possible to have three devices on one IDE cable. I have two HDD, a DVD-ROM, a Combo and a Zìp drive and I wanted to put the DVD's and the Zip on the same cable. I have not seen a three-device cable yet but I hope this is possible.

nope, but you can get a card that will control more ide devices, expanding the capabilities of your mobo

yeah, didn't think so. I'll take a look into the extra card. The mobo is A7N8X Deluxe PCB 2 so I guess it'll handle it.

Probably there was a cable to accommodate 3 IDE devices, but you wouldnt be able to use all 3 at once. You'd need to alternately use 2 of the devices, kinda sharing.

But as blackrat364 said, have an IDE card, I've heard Promise has been making good ones.

They don't tell you the price but I'll just hope it's not too expensive.
Not many places to buy from in Spain though. Although it says 66MHz PCI I soupouse it won't mind if I bring up the FSB a little

You can up the FSB as much as you want, up to probably 215-225 MHz, RAM being the limitor. The A7N8X is a nForce 2 board and the PCI/AGP speeds are controled independant of the FSB

Your bus also comes with RAID, correct? I don't know this for sure, but is it possible to hook the hard drive up as RAID and the other devices on the two IDE channels at the same time?

I was thinking more of 400MHz (2x200) since it's a Barton.
I knew some motherboards control the PCI/AGP speeds independant of the main FSB. Wasn't sure if mine did it. I don't have the manual here and I can't remember if it has RAID. I'll have to look into it.

I have a A7N8X non-deluxe and I'm almost positive that the differences are that you have dual-lan, surround sound connections, firewire (???), and RAID but I think that it might be SATA raid. Either way, even if you can't hook it up with your existing situation, as was mentioned earlier an addon card will work, and they're quite cheap.

As for the clocks, yeah, 200 MHz FSB will work nicely. Not sure what kind of Barton you have, but if it's the 2500+ there's a strong chance you can run at 3200+ speeds (200x11). My Athlon 1700+ will do that as well, but I only have PC2700 RAM so I run at Athlon 2600+ speeds instead (166x11). The locked PCI/AGP is a GREAT thing to have, gives much flexibility to customizing your setup

Not sure about the RAID, as I said, but yes, I do have firewire, although you have to use one of the back plates in the case. Oh, well, wasn't gonna use them all anyway.

The 2500+ is a Barton!? I though that was a ThroughbreadB. The only Bartons I know about are the 3000+ (the one I have) and the 3200+
Having the 3000+, there shouldn't be much of a problem running at 3200+ speeds, or even more

Nah, the 2600+, 2700+, and 2800+ are all Tbred. 2500+, 3000+, and 3200+ are Barton. They kinda jump around a bit, but whatever .
