Basicly im looking for some arguements for gnome.
Ive heard that the desktop with the standard api(and dalog boxes) is kde and the the desktop that does everything but be a good desktop is gnome.
With out mentioning the apps can anyone say anything good about gnome? Just it as a desktop/desktop framework.
I tried a linux site and they give me the crappy answer of 'we cant tell you which one is best', can a programmer answer this one?
Ive only had it a few days but i tried ice, kde, and gnome and gnome is the one i liked the most for ease of use so i kept it.
Nothing?
No gnome fans?

Im just wondering since alot of people seem to be strict gnome uses even with the rummors I heard. I was hoping some one would answer it....
I prefer KDE over GNome only b/c KDE seems to run faster and with fewer problems on my system, but if I had to pick any desktop I would go with IceWM it runs nicley on my computer.
Can any one talk about framework/design/professionalism here?
I run KDE, most my friends run IceWM. Kdevel isnt bad for coding. And Konsole is my favorite app (note im a complete console monkey. I simply run X so i can get MORE consoles at once.)
Ahh yes, the wonders of using the konsole...it makes me feel powerful to open many at once and is also useful when your firends come over just type ls in all of them and say you are in the middle of hacking a bank.

Are you trying to make us sell the Gnome window manager to you? Is it really that hard to try it for yourself and see if you are comfortable with the system?
As for everything else im pretty sure you will find lots of information on the Gnome homepage, and if you are not satisfied with that you can dive right in on the source code.

I dont think i could stand those kind of 'desktops'. To me, thats a windows manager and kde/gnome is a desktop, its supposed to come with more if you have decent hardware. I might try them, but I doubt ill make a switch.Personally I prefer Fluxbox, both KDE and Gnome seem a bit bloated to me...
I very much doubt that you will ever get any impartial answers. I think that if you want any real answers you should e-mail the developers of gnome, my guess is that they would know more than anyone else on this subject, and as any other real hackers they will most likely love to give you the information that you want if your questions are well thought thru.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help but as I said, I don't really like gnome and thusly I have never spent the time to learn anything about what really goes on.
