Yes, you need a crossover cable.
Explain..?
...
Instead of a regular ethernet cable, you need a crossover cable. Those cables are designed for just this purpose, and aren't good for anything else. Go to a store and look for one, and buy it. Plug it into both computers.
Away.
Yea, make sure it's crossover otherwise you wont be able to connect those machines.
Come cast your shadow over me
and I'll cast mine all over thee
Take me away, into the shades
where there is no light of day
Technically it's called Category 5 cable (Cat 5 for short) and it's usually for 10BaseT network. Straight-thru wires are for connecting a NIC to a switch/hub, while a crossover wire is for a NIC to a NIC.
