    Significance of $

Hi. I've just installed Windows 2000 Server on a computer on my network, and I was going to create a domain. I was wondering, what is the significance of the symbol "$", when it comes to networking and shared files? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

In dos and the various Unix shells the $ tells the command interperters that its a variable. As for they MS uses the $ for shares, that I dont know.
