    Question USB Network?

    Hi all

I was wondering if it is possible to create a local network between two or more computers throw a USB cable (assumed that the computers in question have USB ports), instead of using a normal network cable? If so then does it require any configuration, if it does then how? And also, is it possible to use so called USB Hubs or Switchs to connect more then two computers together?

i have never heard of this or a usb hub/switch so i'm going to say no, but i could be wrong. I think usb hub is one of the boxes that turns one usb port into, say, 4.

But what if you connect a USB cable from one computer to another, without using any normal network cable or adapter? Would that work as a local network?

    NO. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY.

There are USB hubs / switches.

And u can use them to create usb networks (with more than 2 computers).

There are usb 2.0 and usb hubs / switches

for example this is a german website, where you can buy usb hubs:

There is no problem to create a usb network (I have used a network with usb hubs / switches at a LAN party)

    OK Thanks! really cool
But where do I get the necessary USB networkcables?
I guess the same german website has those too, but I can't understand much of what is written
And also, does it require any windows configuration or special program?

I guess I don't understand why you'd want to do this. After buying all the stuff, you just have well gone normal LAN in the first place. A USB network will be slower, not as well supported (I'd guess), and probably a nightmare to set up.

NIC cards are cheap, so is cable. Here is a link to a page that appears to be what you're looking for though. Sounds pretty nifty, but also pretty expensive

Yes I know that USB is slower, but if I could use USB 2.0 instead, then i would go much faster (faster then 10Mbit I think)! Where can I find USB 2 networkcables and hubs/switches?

I would think it's much cheaper and faster to buy two NICs and a cross-over cable. That would run at 100 MBit.

    Is it really 480Mbit/s?
