I voted for Red Hat mainly because that's what I use on a normal basis. Your best bet is to download the popular distros and see which one fits you best.....it's as simple as that. I've tried Mandrake, Gentoo, Debian, Slackware, and FreeBSD and for some reason always end up using Red Hat because it just works for me.

I voted for slak and I Echo vVv's comments. Ive tried a lot of distors but they are all the same.. same kernel, same utils, same GUI (and Im not talking windows managers).

Its all personal taste. And In matters of taste no-one is wrong.

Voted for Slackware. vVv is correct. But ofcourse you will have an idea from the poll but that will be a blind idea. If you are beginner, try them all ip possible. At lease RedHat, Slackware, Mandrake, Suse, Debian

Though I haven't yet checked Devian. Ohh don't forget to consider their speciality in their field.

Geez. I did not vote for one because i havent used all of them, but try them all out. They are free, after all.

Oh, and as a warning, these topics generaly degenerate into flamewars. As people seem to be dedicated to their distros.

thats why i did it. i figured inbetween the flames a fact would be said and i could eliminate a couple distros and know what to look out for. but i made some progress any way
