    dual booting

I have bought a new Packard bell Idesign and cant get it to install linux does anyone know of any reason why this is or how I could remedy it. I can't even get it to start partitioning so is ther another way I can partition my hard drive other than the software on the Linux install disks.

    Have you installed Linux before?

(no offense, just trying to figure out whether this is a user or computer related problem)

can you get to the bios and if so, are there any locks on the configuration?

Secondly, have you removed the OS that came installed on the computer?

Well, I suppose you use windows right now, and you don't want to format it, download the Partition Magic program, make there 3 partitions (this should be enough).

    1 - mine is 5GB+
    2 - mine is 300MB
    3 - mine is 50MB

well, just create them as fat32, and in the linux installation transform them to EXT3 (just 2 of them). The first one will be the root (/), the second change the system file type to SWAP, and the third will be /boot.

On the installation it will install Grub or Lilo, it will configure alone the dual-boot, else if you want to configure it manual, man lilo or man grub, or search about loadlin.
