Put cd in drive, shut down, the turn on ur comp, shud run thru autorun.
Ok well here it goes. The full guide to upgrading your OS:
First of all you need to insert the CD and let the autorun run. If it is a upgrade you will be able to install it that way quite easily. In the autorun there should be a link to something like install windows .. . If so you can just run this install and at some point through the quite easy to follow installation it will ask you wheter you want to format your C: drive. Select that and let the installation finish.
If however this is not the case there are some other steps to follow:
1. Shutdown and insert a Win 9x boot disk.
2. Let the system boot up and select start with CD-ROM
3. Wait a long time till you get to the DOS like command-system and type the command: format c:
4. Let it format, it will take a while, when it is done it will ask you wheter or not you want to label your disk. If so enter the name and press enter if not just press enter.
- Now it gets a bit tricky, from here there are two possibilities that could work.
5. Insert the desired Windows CD, go to the CD drive in the command-system (Usually done by typing E: <enter>). Then type in the command setup <enter>
6. Here it will either tell you to press enter to install Windows or it will tell you that setup cannot be run under dos mode.
6a. If it started installing windows sit back and relax as it goes else go on.
7. If it tells you, you cannot setup under DOS mode you first have to install Win 95 or Win 98 and then, after installing Win 9x, "upgrade" to the newer OS. (To upgrade insert the new Windows CD into the cd drive and double click the drive in Win 9x, then the autorun will guide you through the rest.)
Ok, it is a bit unclear but basically the first run through should generally work, unless for some reason it does not ask you to format during the setup. If so use the second run through to ensure your disk is as empty as possible.
