    I thought you were going to try and repair/reinstall with the home cd....THAT wouldn't have worked. But now that i see what you did do i say congratulations on fixing the thing.

    Thats dependent on the problem you are trying to repair. In some situations these two versions share the exact same components via dll's and such, and can infact be repaired by either cd version, regardless of the install version.

    yeah, but what i meant was, i check the reinstall option (even though im aware that that's not what he did) on the home cd, and pro is installed, it either won't go or wont' work if it does. They are too different, that's why you can't use the upgrade cd to go pro to home, etc.

    actually, what I did was used the Home repair cd, and actually installed home (not my choice, my mom wanted to install it, *sigh*, I was just going to copy the dll). and installing the new OS worked, so then in windows explorer, (in home edition), i just copy/pasted the msvcrt.dll file in to the profesional edition's system32 folder, rebooted, loaded pro up, and it works fine now! and i didn't lose a single block of data, lol
