A couple weeks ago I had major issues with my Compaq Pesario, and posted in this forum about it. Well, after the second cd drive failed within a day of getting the comp back, they have decided to just give us a new emachine.
Any thoughts as to how reputable/reliable they are?
Of course, this computer probably is more powerfull considering my old computer was just over 3 yrs old.
The only good thing about freezing beyond feeling in the final Nordic ski race was that I couldn't feel that tumble I did going about 30 mph, maybe more.
On the other hand, not feeling any part of my body for 30 minutes was scary, especialy for my manhood.

I won't be surprised if you get just as many problems with the e-machine... some people have had decent luck with them others think they're pure garbage. I've never worked on one, but I'd never want to either.

and several i have been looking at on compusa's website dont even have CDRW or USB.
One doesnt even have a LAN port.

I would seriously complain... because those machines aren't often upgradable... and like you've seen, dont' come with many options... that's pretty $$$$ty if they're giving you a new machine, but giving you a piece of garbage that isn't at least equivalent to your current specs.
My dad and I are going to ahh, shall we say, discuss it with them. =D
They called this morning, and said, oh, we're replacing your Compaq with an Emachine. You can pick it up today.
Come on, at least tell us what Emachine.
Oh, and on CompUsa's website, there are only HP, Compaq, Sony, Emachines, and Apple computers. I refuse HP, Compaq, Apple, and am worried about emachines

I honestly would have taken an Apple over an emachine.
Yeah, I'd complain too... Even though I like Emachines (they break less than almost everything) they're a little too, well, barebones... That Emachine (refurbished most likely) probably cost about 1/4 that of your Compaq.
Any of the Emachines on the Compusa website are faster than my Compaq.

There are the Emachines, of course, we will insist that we have LAN added if there isnt, and as much as or equal ram, since ive upgraded the amount of ram that was in the Compaq.
So, Traviss, they break less than other brands?

I've had my thoughts on Compaq but never expected them to be
this bad?
Yeah, they break less because there isn't much in them to break
The newer Emachines seem to me to be pretty good. We worked on the first Emachines (300-500 series) a TON. Their power supplies went out like crazy.
The new ones have good parts, and if something does go bad, it's pretty random. I've replaced 1 power supply, 1 CPU/Ram, 2 or 3 CD-ROM's, and a couple motherboards.
Now, since I work on around 40-50 computer per month, worked on first newer Emachine (by newer I mean 1.4 GHz and up) about 4 month ago... Well, out of about 180ish comuter I've worked on less than 10 Emachines. Don't even ask me for the number of Compaq's and HP's... I can't count that high.
