Question Computer Processes.... Which can be stopped?

    Hi,

Well i have 256Mb of DDR RAM and I was finding some games jolting at points. So i looked at my computers processes and it stunned me. I had only approx. 100 MB free to use. So when checking the processes i was using I found that there are processes in place that I wasn't using. Such as Explorer.exe and MSNMessenger.exe, now i use these, but i wasn't using them at that point.

    So the question is:

Are there processes that i can stop, and if i stop them will i still be able to access them after i stop them without turning the computer off or doing something crazy?

    A Friend recommended this board

    Thanks

Assuming you're using 2000/XP, you can stop most processes, including Explorer.exe (just make sure you restart it when you finish your game). In most cases, just open the program it's associated with once you need it again, and it will be fine. For explorer, you need to go to the process list, File->New Task (Run...), and type in Explorer.exe, then hit run.

    Thank you.

What about processes other than those i mentioned. Im not the best with computers, but do i HAVE to do that thing with run etc or can i just for example double click exploerer and the process start again?

Generally, if you don't know what a process is, or how to start it again, don't stop it.
