    Smile

I had the same problem once. Only my problem occured in DOS when I was reformatting... and I had a virtual drive setup temporarily. I'd say you're most likely stuck with some bad hardware. Does it seem to read the disk when you stick it in??

Floppy drives aren't expensive... so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Yeh it seems to read it. So just changing the floppy'll make it work ?

Pfff Floppy's....That's asking for trouble .
Consider using a Zip Drive, they really rock. Just like floppy's only
    safer,more space (100MB-200MB), more realibility.

But how many people actually have ZIP drives?

I've got no problems with my floppy drive at all. Even if Zip drives are a thousand times better, most people don't have them, so they're basically worthless to most....

I replaced my floppy drive with my hard drive, I had so many
problems with floppy's in the past like suddenly stop working or
a virus is suddenly on it, you name it.

You're right, whe all must have Zipps to benefit from it, So i
suggest people deliver computers with Zipps instead of Flopps.

Or they could just include CD-RWs, which are cheaper media with more storage. Plus, there's that added bonus that everyone with a computer less than 10 years old probably has one.

    > a virus is suddenly on it

A virus can't just be "suddenly on it" - either you screwed up and did something wrong (not avoided by zip disks) or you used someone else's computer that had one (again - not prevented by zip disks)

It should, yes. From your description, I'd say it's toast.

dunno if this is helpful but if the green light of ur floppy disk keeps lighting up id suggest u open ur comp and pull the IDE cable out f the floppy then but the IDE cable back in but swap it.... with swap i mean u reverse it normally an IDE cable can only be putted in in one way BUT like lots of comps (i guess) u can put the IDE cable of the floppy reversed in it

I've got 2 hdds, a cd rom and rw, a floppy, and a zip250. I'm very happy with the zip, cdrw is a good contender, but the disks don't have the life of the zip drive. At work we all have zips but not cdrw's so i use quite a bit of zip disks.

    BTW:
Floppy's aren't going anywhere, at least not for the next 5 years or so.
    PHP and XML
    Let's talk about SAX

Okay, tried everything with my floppy, change drive, no change in problem, switch cable light stays permanantly on. Makes it worse. The thing is, that I had it running on XP before, then I changed my Hard Drive and had to reinstall it.

Anyone know why it won't work?

hmm maybe my previous post was a bit confusing.

i said that if the green light was alrdy lighting up all the time u should reverse the cable.
