Dells are tops for pre-fab IMO, although I've had very good experience with Gateway too.

Why would you buy a pre-assembled pc anyway?
Cheaper? You're too dumb to it yourself?
I say you should just assemble a pc from normal brand hardware,
no special compaq hardware and software crap.

But the big companies include so many unneeded components, and take forever to deliver on their warrenties, and in my case with compaq, continuously blame other companies.

I have used my dell warrenty at least 15 times in the last three years (only two were needed i jus wanted new parts), and i always had my new part within two days and no hassle, i love it.

see? Now that's a reason to have the warranty. Granted, I'm a DIY kinda guy just because I think the systems they build are ****, but then I don't buy low-grade equipment either. So the chances of it failing are greatly minimized.

Maybe so, but i have been burned to many times by compaq, and not to eager to try another company. So, next time I have a couple thousand sitting around, ill buy a comp from a company other than compaq. I like the looks of a totaly custum built computer from a parts/comp store in my town, though. That way, if there are problems, ther store is reachable phisically(sp?).

    My 1/2 cent

Whe have some shops here that assmebles pc from the
hardware you choose and has excellent service and garantue.
So you aren't forced to go for dell or compaq.

    Sense-at last.

You buy a component-look at the manual and you will see they ALL have at least 12 months with them.

I too am lucky that I have never needed to claim on warranty (I built mine myself) but I would have done if the need arose.

Remember, you can't retail anything with no warranties nowadays.

Truth be known, you would probably have more bother getting joy with the prefab tat manufacturers than with the component makers.
    Such is life.

Not always true....OEM cd-rom drives and such normally don't come with warranties.
