I'd go for the Duron combination, reasons:

#1: Motherboard that comes with the duron is superb compared to the athlon motherboard
#2: Athlon has better floating point calculations, but you will only notices those in very dependend games like Unreal Tournament, besides the 200 mhz makes up for the lack.

What do u mean by the 200 picks up the slack? Also, theres a few other motherboard combos in my price range:

    $72 - Duron 1.2GHz with cpu, fan
$69 Duron 1.1GHz with cpu, fan
    $68 - Duron 1GHz with cpu, fan
    $65 - Duron 950 with cpu, fan
    $62 - Duron 900 with cpu, fan
    $72 - Duron 850 with cpu, fan
    $66 - Duron 600 with cpu, fan
    $69 - Athlon 950 Sock A with cpu, fan
    $67 - Athlon 850 Sock A with cpu, fan
$59 Athlon 750 SLOT A with cpu, fan
$54 Athlon 700 SLOT A with cpu, fan
$75 Duron 1.3GHz with cpu, fan
    $73 - Athlon 1.1GHz 200 with cpu, fan
    $73 - Celeron 950 with cpu, fan

The duron's 200 mhz extra makes up for the lack of floating point calculations that the athlon has extra.

    I'd go for the duron,duron,duron,duron

    ok, one more question.

Say i get the duron 950, with a better fan could this be run to outperform the 1.3 duron?

And just out of curiosity, how does the celeron match up here? Never used one jus curious.

All durons above 700 mhz dont overclock very well, so no you
arent going to be able to push it to 1.3 ghz.

Celeron's are competitors of the Duron, but are much more
expensive. The celeron however is being produced up to 2,2 ghz.

hehe ok so heres the projected specs we are looking at after i buy it all, not including the case as if i have too i'll use it with no case till i can afford it, won't be the first time haha.

    AMD Duron 1.3GHZ
    704MB SDRAM PC133
    ATI Radeon 32MB DDR AGP
    24x10x40 OEM Burner Drive
    20GIG Maxtor 7200RPM Drive
    Sound Blaster LIVE 128MB

Total, with the case, it is running me an over-estimated price of:

    230.00

The 230.00 is RAM, Case, Radeon, SB Live, Proc/Mobo

That's not an number in the power of 2 (64,128,256).
Could work just fine, but could result in an conflict wich randomly
crashes your pc (had it many times in the far past).

    It was

    512
    128
    64

would i be better to cut the 64 and leave slot 2 open(third slot, but they go 0, 1, 2 if i am correct) ?

I would only use 512 because as i said its even then, anyhow,
you should at least remove the 64 mb, that might entirely
create problems, such a weird memory combi.

i can do 512, i'm getting most of it at really great prices:

    DDR - 20.00
    SB - 15.00
    128 - 5.00

my buddy is like a pc warehouse for that kinda stuff, now i don't need to give him 5.00 for the ram, i'll just pay the 40.00 for the 512.

    howdy,
My Athlon XP 2000+ runs at 35C, totally stable,AIR cooled
wierd, i have heard other folks say the same thing, the 2 MP's i have come out of post at about 35c but as soon as the OS loads they are at 40 easy and idle in the mid to upper 40's.
i wonder if my temp diodes are wrong or if this set up's personality is just to run hot???

    M.R.
I don't like you very much. Please post a lot less.
    Cheez
    *and then*
No, I know you were joking. My point still stands.

You have two proc's in one case, imo that would make a bigger difference to the temp of each chip than someone who has one.
