I believe Duron's where the best heat productors of them all
They could overclock good though, the 1.3 hgz wont come that
far though, i believe the 500 and 600 mhz version where overclock beasts

i considerd a duron 800-950mhz, i don't need numbers to start with, i want the best, most affordable amd performance i can get. I am paying less than 80 for the mobo/proc for this one, any suggestions?

You can get an MSI K7T Pro and a Duron 900 for 80 dollars here,
Really tight though
hmm, everybody seems to mess up with the FSB, itsOriginally posted by RoD

100,133 and 166 mhz FSB or 200,266,300 mhz FSB.
well heres the athlon:

and heres the duron:

its mostly going to be a gaming pc, running a ATI Radeon 32mbDDR that i have, but i'd like to be able to o/c it later on. I have had several intel so i want an AMD built by myself, but i need to keep mobo/proc combo at 80 max.
/* your correct, i type'od on the FSb, its 200
*/
howdy,
yea RoD i guess if you use the system near the unstable range it would be nice to know when you got to the line. i have mine set at 75C which is 15C below what AMD says is the max. i have not shut down yet.
right now my Athlon MP 2000+ temps are
CPU0 49c/120f
CPU1 54c/129f
totally stable, water cooled.

No, I know you were joking. My point still stands.
So a liqud cooled AMD runs 7 degrees hotter than a regular pentium? interesting, may i ask what your LCing system is? Like the make/model.
howdy,
my cooling system is:
Swiftech Extreme H2O-22500-A
it has all 1/2" tubing and uses Swiftech MCW5000-A blocks
it is kind of interesting that on a dual proc boars one CPU runs hotter than the other one, but it was like that with the Thermaltake air cooled heat sinks as well.
The water cooler didn'nt real have much effect on the temps at idle but under load (Q3A for an hour) they would both go up to 70C but with the water system niether of them have ever gone over 59C

How does the Dual AMD system run? To my knowledge you won't really use both of them daily correct?
howdy,
i am in the CAD business, running AutoCAD under Win2K pro is a rather interesting thing.
both proc see some load but together they never go over 50%, if i swithch AutoCAD to run on a single proc it will load that up to 100%. i have run render tests and found that render times are similar using both procs and using one proc.
as far as performance goes, i'm not in a real position to say. i traded an Athlon 750 for this dual proc box. but as far as i know this box screams.
in AutoCAD i don't even see the splash screen during start up, Q3A (my favorite game) runs smooth and seamles with all effect maxed, i'm sure my GeForce4 Ti 4200 128mb video card has helps.
i put this box together as a CAD station and at this point i have been very happy with it.
specs
- MB Asus A7M266-D
procs 2 AMD Athlon MP 2000+
mem 2@512mb DDR ECC pc2100
video eVga GeForce4 Ti 4200 128 MB AGP 4X
as far as the rest of the stuff it is pretty average
