Need to connect a second monitor 50ft away...

I have an old (win 95, now win98) laptop in the front of the boat.
My parents got a new (well, now it is a few months old) Sylvania LCD monitor.

My task is to hook up the Sylvania monitor so that my parents can see a replication of the laptop monitor on the LCD screen 50ft away (in the back of the boat).

Is this possable? I checked for cords, they seem to run into the $150 range. A clerk at a computer store thought that we could go wireless, using a device where you plug a component video cable into it and it sends a signal to a replicate device, but the monitor only has a normal monitor plug, and he didn't know of anything, wireless, that would work with that.

What are my options? anyone do anything like this? With such a long distance I would have to buy a gold plated cord (hehe "8karat cord").

That's a long way for ANY cable really... And honestly, I'm not really sure how you'd do it wireless. There would have to be a special product designed just for that use, since there would have to be some sort of base station the monitor would plug into...

I would have to guess you'll need that $150 cord

Yeah, I just might have to stick with a cord.

The wireless alternative does seem a bit nice, but that would mean I would have to get a newer($500-$600) model LCD screen that sports video ports.

Would a different cord be cheaper? If I could find a little computer(find some small system on eBay?) to stick out there with the LCD then I could link the two comps up with a data cable and tell the one to simply display what it recieves, or stick wireless NICs in them, although that option alone requires two wireless NICs(can two wireless NICs talk to each other directly, or do they need a base?) and a computer (I have no idea what the price for that kinda hookup would be).

    Thanks anyways, TravisS

Over here in God old UK. We have a wireless video sender, it allows you to send images from one PC to another monitor or TV. Check it: http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...25&modulecode= It does work with PC's as I work at Maplin. We have tested them. But why not use a TV, instead of LCD monitor? Easier and cheaper.

Cable: I think the signal would disipate pretty bad.

Wireless: May interfere with other viewing devices imo.

LAN: Best suggestion is like salem said, a remote desktop client, this way you can log into one pc from another and see it as if you were there. I use it on my XP network and i love it.

go with Salem's suggestion on this if you have the relevent network setup... VNC is probably your best option... and you can control it using that too... not just view it.

Well, the reason we went with a monitor wa because a TV would be too big, or we would have to get a rather small TV to fit in the specified box. Also this radar system looks a tad big to fit it in with a TV.

The idea is that when my parents are out in the back of the boat they can see what the main computer has, mainly depths, land, and the location of the boat. Although much detail would be sacrificed I imagine a TV would be a much cheaper alternative. Any idea how much a 50ft TV cable and adapters for the computer would be?

    Thanks guys, really big thanks.

But how would I get the computer to output to a TV? This laptop doesn't even have a USB port. It has two card ports, PS/2, Serial(taken by the GPS), Printer, InfraRed, and what I think is a monitor port. Is there even anything that could convert to a TV cable, as well as drivers to do it? I figure most stuff out there would come as a card that wouldn't fit in the Laptop, so the only thing that would ever work would be a card.
