    Linux - Second Hard Drive

    I have a 4.3gig hard drive in my 486 I was considering putting in my current computer, so I can put linux on it. I know you can dual boot, but since I have the hard drive I thought I would considering just putting linux on it.

    Is it possible to have linux on a second hard drive, and have it act like a dual boot system?

    Would it be better to have a real dual boot system?

    Thanks

    Um, if you had Linux on the second hard drive and both drives were connected, you WOULD have a dual boot system...

    Well if that's what he meant hhe was confused as to the definition of dual-boot. I can't picture swapping out internal hard drives every time you boot over, so I'm guessing thats the setup he referenced.

    And no, there is no difference if you have diifference systems on different drives, although if you want all out Linux with all the bells, whistles, and servers installed you might want a little more room.

    Thanks for clarifying for me ROD, thats what I meant.

    Well I really would like to learn Linux, so I guess I will consider partioning my 40gig hard drive again.

    Thanks for the info.

    If you want 1 OS per HD try something like this:

    Notice the change to the RDISK value.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=10
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Win98" /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Win2k " /fastdetect

    Obviously, I wasn't using Linux but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
