Modem woes

Just wondering why after slapping in a new Geoforce4 card, my modem is playing up.

I can hear the modem kind of stutter when I initialise it, then it dials normally.

I can then only get 28k-half of what I have regularly got for years with the same modem and set-up.

I have checked all settings and had the 'gain' on the line boosted-all to no avail.

Anyone ever heard of conflicts or whatever like this?

As I said, I have NEVER had less than 48-52k before I changed to this Nvidia card.

Help?

Is the vid card AGP or PCI? The modem, onboard or PCI?

Have you tried reseating the modem?

Ummm being a geoforce force 4 i guess it is AGP.

Anyway, I have moved PCI slots for the modem and it is better.

.........Maybe you were right, and I inadvertently unseated it?

If you have a Win Modem as oppose to a hardware modem, and a lower level CPU, it could be that your processor is just too slow to handle the AGP drivers of your new video card. Another possibility is that your power supply is not powerful enough. New AGP cards such as the one you have are power hogs. Hope this helps.

Well, thanx for the reply..Look above-it says 1900xp AMD etc

Thus I must have a high rated PSU. (to support this CPU)

I think it must have taken a subtle knock whilst putting Video card in.
