    Norton Internet Security

I tried to install NIS today. I installed the program, restarted and then it gave me an error saying it didnt install properly. I uninstall it, and try to reinstall it, but its says Norton Antivirus is already installed, yet it ISNT. I can install the firewall, but not the Antivirus program.

I tried add/remove programs but that wasnt there. The weird thing is, when I uninstalled it, it removed the NISecurity icons, but the Antivirus ones remained.

Ive uninstalled twice, and it still wont let me reinstall Norton Antivirus.

    Any suggestions?

Welll I dont really care about the firewall aspect of Norton, I wanted their virus checker. I had AVG, a free one, and decided to finally get norton, and now I cant install it. What crap!

I've been risking the family's computer for probably over 3 years, but certainly for 3 years with no firewall or virus scanning software. I got the NYB virus, and the Klez mailing worm. That's it, NYB I got rid of by deleting the windows folder, reinstalling it, then renewing the missing files for the programs still on the hard drive. Klez I disinfected manually.

    Nothing like that here.

I have quite a few online friends who don't use didly squat for protection, you don't need it. It's damn expensive too.

Norton can't be uninstalled and installed again. Actually it can but with much trouble. I have had the same problem with several customers computers, and usually the quickest and cheapest way for them is a complete format and reinstall of everything. I never recommend Norton products to anyone, because of all the problems I have had with it, and all the negative feedback it gets from others. I must say, the virus checker is good, but not worth it for all the trouble the rest of the program causes. I would recommend Ontracks Sytem Suite 4 for anyone as a substitute for Norton.

PS: Im not an Ontrack sales rep!

    WHAT?

Did you buy the Norton or is it a 'bit hooky'?

If you bought the full suite or whatever you will find the solution in the handbook. If not available, see below.

NO WAY do you need to wipe everything.

The MOST FAQ on Norton's site is about this EXACT problem. If you looked you would find it.

I had the same trouble installing, but it really is a simple fix.

Go look at Nortons website (help/FAQ)-the answer is there.

This prob is so common you would not believe. And persevere 'cos whatever ppl have said so far it really is good software.

    There, I feel better now.

Oops I forgot to add-YES IT can be uninstalled quite easily.

    Some people!

As I said, follow the website instructions-you will need to print them off- and you will be fine.

Hacked me off when it happened but it is sooooo simple to fix!

    Good luck
