    computer store techs

    howdy,
this may sound simple to most of you folks but this is what has been happening to me.
    my new box

    • ASUS A7M266-D MB
      dual AMD Athlon MP 2000+
2@ 512 MB DDR ECC ram
      nVidia GeFroce4 ti 4200 128MB
      Win 2Kpro w/sp2
      Award BIOS v1006

was having good days and bad days, what i mean is on a good day it would go blue screen 5 times on a bad day it would go blue screen every 10 minutes or so.
the techs at the place where i got my MB blamed it on nVidia drivers, Win2k Pro, NTFS, 2 memory chips instead of one, HDD controler issues etc... this had gone on for several months. i finnay decided to take matters into my own hands.
i started by looking at the BIOS settings and low and behold there buried 3 levels down in the advanced BIOS settings were 2 items.

    • 1. enable ECC ram.
      2. AGB aperture.

after enabling ECC ram (thats whats in this box) and setting the AGP aperture to 128MB (thats whats on my AGP video card. the problems are solved. no more blue screen errors.
    the moral to this story:
trust your own experience when setting up a box, dont listen to self professed experts that have little or no idea what they are doing

    M.R.
I don't like you very much. Please post a lot less.
    Cheez
    *and then*
No, I know you were joking. My point still stands.

    Ah, the clever stories.

I won't share here because I've had multiple people pay me to fix their computers. I've taken 'em apart, trade cd roms and ram like they're baseball cards...etc! The fun stuff.

    Nice hunting itld.
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.

u know the worst thing i ever did? some guy had me fix his pc like 4 times, i forget what he kept doing but it was the same thing and it was his fault. The 4th time he dropped it off he told me off saying it was my fault, so i took his 20x sony cd writer and switched its faceplate with my 2x sony cdwriter, now hes at 2 and i'm at 20.

    lol.

RoD....That's just wrong to do that to someone, even though they blamed you for something that wasn't your fault.....it's stealing.

I know, I deal with incompetent people every day but that doesn't give anyone the right to steal from them.

Yeah, he switched the faceplates to make it look like the person still had their 20X cd writer when they actually had a 2X.

Hmmm, that's not what I got from it. RoD, car to explain?

I thought he switched just the faceplates so the person would think it was a 2x when it was still a 20x

keep in mind that the best of us slip sometimes. thats what forgivness is for.
The only good thing about freezing beyond feeling in the final Nordic ski race was that I couldn't feel that tumble I did going about 30 mph, maybe more.
On the other hand, not feeling any part of my body for 30 minutes was scary, especialy for my manhood.

Windoze: XP, hate it, though its more stable than my old 98SE
    Dream: linux, mandrake, then slackware.

Its not a habit, the tera was a luck situation that anyone, i don't care how much you say otherwise, would have abused in the same way, if not worse, that i did.

And to clarify, i switched the faceplates so that the guy thought he still had a 20x when he now had a 2. IE he still had his faceplate, but not the same drive.

i didn't make him think anything, he had no reason to think otherwise tho.

Basically after hearing his **** for his problem so many times and having him blame me, although he kept asking ME to fix it, i swapped the faces so that my 20x CDR drive looked like his 20X and put it in his pc, ie it looks the same, its just 18x slower.

I must note that he doens't use it, or he never did before cuz he hasn't complained its slow....
