ok ok .... there' it goes,
first, have you create a startup disk from win98. if not, simply go to the add/remove section, the 2nd tab and create for startup disk.
p/s : i'm not sure win2k is upgrade version or not ? upgrade version -- you can directly install it. no need to format again.
if not, create your startup disk win98. reboot computer after put the disk on your drive. and then, you will see that there's 2 options. if you are using win2k CD installer. choose "...with CDROM support".
after that, format your hard disk you wan to prefer "x:format/q" (better use /q to quick erase your whole files on current drive, no need to waste a lot of times waiting for normal formation for large capa of space on current drive)
after that, let say your CDROM drive is "e:", the CDROM latter will be changed to "F:", so go to f drive and then run the current file, follow the instruction and you will found the results.
good luck.
You can also just boot with the Windows 2000 CD and delete the 98 partition during the install and create a NTFS partition. If your computer won't boot from a CD then use a boot disk.
Check your bios at startup to set it to boot from CD. Change it back when you're done.

You can't run the regular setup.exe from DOS. navigate to the i386 folder and execute winnt.exe to install it.
when setup gives u the option use NTFS
why not ? using win98 startup disk, will help you to support your CDROM drive. that's a easy way to load your CDROM drive. why should have to run to the bios system and change the settings?Originally posted by salvelinus

if i guess right, win2k should be install during running your win98. just update it by clicking the setup and it will show you the instructions. i guess it's impossible install on dos, but win98 can.Originally posted by kcK

Do not use a Win98 boot disk!
There's a much easier way!
On your Windows 2000 CD, go to the directory called "bootdisk", and run "makeboot"; it will create 4 setup disks for you which you can use to delete/create FAT32/NTFS partitions (you'll want to delete the FAT32 and create an NTFS), format the new partition, and have universal disk/CD-ROM drivers loaded... and it's all done with nice, easy-to-understand menus... do it that way.
Remember: "d:\bootdisk\makeboot"
So,what is the NTFS and FAT32? what should i do next with the installation of win2k?pls give more direction as i don't know which one should i follow to? Give me more details,ok
why should i create/delete NTFS and FAT32 as i'm new in PC?

Go into your bios and set your CDROM as first boot device. Put in the win2k cd and boot the pc, it will prompt u to hit a key, do so. This brings up win2k setup, folow whats on the screen and when prompted choose NTFS.
NTFS is a journaling file system and also implements security through a permission structure for files and folders.
