    Antivirus

Anyone know of any reliable free antivirus programs I could download. For some reason Symantec freezes whenever I run it.

    Thanks

Haven't used it myself, but here's one.

here's an idea... scratch the whole thing and just don't get a virus

I haven't had an anti-virus program (although I've done a couple online scans) for over 2 years and I have yet to have a virus... you just have to be careful.

Im using the antivirus program that Hammer linked to and it works great! Always detects a virus upon download, and the biggest bennefit of AVG is that it uses less memory than Norton or McAfee

kaspersky anti-virus is really solid, IMO. Rated 9 in one of the magazine this month . .

It is not a free/share ware, but you can always crack it . .

One of my favorites is pc-cillin made by trend. You can trial it for i think 90 days from download.com. To test it i've actually intentionally put viruses on my computer and all that i tried it managed to catch, so it's always worked for me.

I use Norton, but I dont like it purely becuase of the fact that the FBI created a virus in the interests of cracking down on hackers/software pirates and both Nortan and Mcafee both ignore this virus upon detection! I'M SCREWED!

Current Anti-Virus software is obsolete. don't bother they wont find the new "better" ones.

Well, if you want to get technical, any anti-virus is out of date, before it's even released. It's impossible for any manufacturer, I don't care if you're fu*(in bill gates, it's impossible for anyone to keep up to date with every single virus out there on your market. So in your theory you'd rather not be protected by the ones you app does locate rather than be prone to all of them because your a/v is not up to date !?!?!?!

don't be such an ass, you know what im saying, the new "wave" of viruses, trojans ect... can no longr be found by the current means or methods and a way of detecting them has yet to be found to my knowledge, i don't keep up on this much any more but i do still hear a good little bit.

this is how its gonna be for a while, there arn't gonna be many old viruses very soon they wil be obsolete or update with the new tech.

you definately need virus protection, in the past yeat I have gotten one virus(several really but all from the same online gaming server, Ill admit that it was partially my fault for not password protecting my shared folder) and one thing which might have been a virus.
