Moon shot in 4kb - could you?

    http://www.abc.net.au/science/moon/computer.htm

    also:

    Discuss.

edit2: Actually, this might be broadened into a more general question: is 1970's technology more reliable than today's?

    Voyager's back-up systems activated

edit1: this could probably be moved to GD - I just saw the new Tech board appear all naked and lonely and couldn't resist scoring the first post.

Simpler tends to be more reliable if it is built well. There is less to go wrong.

Moon shot in 4KB-- Could I Do it?

    ---

I'm the only one on this board who could and has done that. I've also run Nuclear Reactor Fuel Handling Machines and other such equipment in that 4K environment.

    enjoy.

Uh, no. I meant "have a nice day". If I'd meant to be arrogant I would have ended with something like "that is all." or "that will be all."

You asked a simple question, I gave a simple, and truthful answer. The only other 2 people on this board who even _know_ how to work in the 4K environment left the board many months ago.

    Does this count?

Not my first experience but certainly an 'experience'. And yes, that is a till receipt roll at the back on the left.

    >>enjoy.<<

    I did. Thankyou.

...and no, i'm not fit to compute the merest operational parameters of most people around cprog, let alone even contemplate a 'moon-shot' - unless in a very figurative sense.

edit: actually I don't remember the AIM 65 being as fast as 1Mhz and I only recall 1kb of RAM, but it was a while ago now.

    >>What did you used to do with it??<<

Not so much what I did to it but what it did to me *shudder*.

    Short answer: not a lot.

Long answer: It was used for teaching 6502 (8-bit processor) assembly 'programming'. I recall a little LED display at the front where you could see the line you were typing in and the till receipt at the back rattled out everything: code, results, smoke. The keyboard was about half the width of a standard pc keyboard today; but at least the instruction set was tiny in comparison to processors today.
