firewire hard drive to USB MacBook conversion adapter?

I've got an old firewire hard drive. No USB connection on it. My Mac has no firewire connection on it. I bought one of these: Firewire IEEE 1394 6 Pin Male to USB 1.1/2.0 A Male Adapter Convertor Connector | eBay, physically it fits fine, hard drive fails to mount and isn't seen at all in Disk Utility. Any ideas how to access the drive on my Mac? Thanks.

That adapter will not do what you expect. Firewire and USB are entirely different protocols, and you cannot simply wire one to the other, and expect it to work. If your macbook has no firewire, then chances are, it has thunderbolt, for which you can get an adapter that will work.
What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

Hi, thanks for the reply. No my Mac hasn't got thunderbolt. Is there no way to go from firewire to USB? What's the adapter I (stupidly) bought for? Thanks.

It looks like you're pretty much out of luck, unless you have a friend with a computer with a firewire or thunderbolt port, that you can use to transfer the files.
