    Why does google not index wiki talk pages?

    I've noticed this quite a lot of times in the past, I wonder why google does so. (Or does MediaWiki use some robots.txt trickery to achieve this? Either way I'm curious about the reason for this.)

    My google search:

    Why does google not index wiki talk pages?-orpington-search-jpg

    If it wasnt for my good luck I'd have never found this gem.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Hunh?

    What on Earth gave you the idea Google gives you all results? It gives you the results the company finds most profitable to offer to you.

    In other words, Google's algorithms have decided that you do not need to know about the Orpington talk page, that's all.

    If you were to, say, search for jackass defination site:en.wikipedia.org using a Verbatim search -- I don't know what "defination" is, but I think it's a combination of definition and defamation -- the first hit ought to be the Wikipedia talk page on Jackass, which is obviously more important than Orpington. Trust Google. Google is your friend. All that is important is known to Google. Do not doubt Google. Goodgle boy.

    Had thou used e.g. DuckDuckGo, you'd have found the three first links much more interesting.

    Wow awesome! I'll use duckduckgo for searching up all artistic material from now on.

    I used to think that since google was the Big Grandfather it'll have the maximum number of obscure, wayward pages in it's database. After reading your post it seems I was wrong.

    There's no better search engine out there. It's like Google in the old days. Can't stand the bloody name though. What on earth!

    As a side note DuckDuckGo is one of those projects that make me still have hope of a free internet for the future. I believe the recent events in Turkey and Russia have a parallel with the old days of Portal-based content search that lead to the birth of companies like Google with a revolutionary user-caring mentality. Companies like Facebook, Twitter (whose CEO once said they were the freedom branch of the Free party) and Google are no longer representatives of our interests as internet users and that hopefully, just like in the late 90s, a new generation of services will emerge from the corruption... until they too become "evil" and we need another reset.

    @jackass
    Nominal Animal's last paragraph is deceptively terse. It demonstrates one of the most important gems about DuckDuckGo; All search results are the the same to everyone. Meanwhile, the Orpington talk page appears 7th on that search result to me and it will to you too.

    Huh? It appears as the third result here. Maybe they did do some tweaking based on the user, but anyhow the fact that the result even appeared and that too without using a "limit results to this site" tactic says a lot about DuckDuckGo.

    Well, that's a surprise. It used to be like I described.

    Yeah one of the coolest things duck duck go does is they don't filter you - so it is one of my most important research tools after other search engines... and I like to use it casually, too.
