Unhappy jGRASP wedge error: command "gdb" not found

When I'm using the cin object in C++ or when I using the nextInt method in java the application won't run. C++ and java compiles but neither of them will run the executable file when either of those conditions I mentioned exist. In C++ this is the error message I get:
jGRASP wedge error: command "gdb" not found.
---- This command must be in the current Working directory
---- or on the current PATH to use this function.
I tried everything I could think of including uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I tried putting the application path in environmental variables. So if anyone out there can assist me with a solution to this problem I'll be grateful. I'm a student and I need the software for my course work.

You don't even mention what software it is...
"A Professor of Computer Science gave a paper on how he uses Linux to teach his undergraduates about operating systems. Someone in the audience asked why use Linux rather than Plan 9?' and the professor answered:Plan 9 looks like it was written by experts; Linux looks like something my students could aspire to write'."
