Linux specializes in command lines, editing files and GUIs just look horrible. How much time do you spend in the terminal vs GUIs? I know I've spent far too much time in the terminal these past months due I had to.
Although, don't take that wrong as to think I think Linux sucks at everything. It doesn't. There are things I like, for instance, the whole packages system. Easy way to maintain and update software.

My KDE 4.8.3 desktop beats any other user interface I've used (Including Windows 7 and OSX (Snow Leopard, iirc) ) in terms of elegance and beauty, in my opinion.
If nothing suits you, it is rather simple to assemble you own GUI environment from scratch.

You don't have to program for that!
All it needs is installation of required packages and in some cases editing configuration files.
I have no desire to do that. Give me an installer and a GUI that does it for me and I'll comply.
I'm on iOS on some old 3gs phone. It's not jailbreaked, there are next to no cool apps installed and I like it that way. Why? Because it's my phone. It has to work. Period. Nothing more, nothing less. If I want to play with something, I use a computer that's not important. If my netbook isn't booting because I was too dense to get the BSD install right, then I just relax, put it somewhere and forget about it until I install Linux some other day. I would not tolerate my phone not working for a month because I did something stupid and neither do I want to spend a night repairing it to avoid that. So I don't touch it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

- Text (ok fine I guess this counts as phone function)
- Check weather
- Read the news
- Take pictures
- Google Maps navigation
- Stopwatch
- Check bank account health
- Calendar to remind me of meetings, etc
- Games
Android or IOS? Android.
Linux or Windows? Linux.
DirectX or OpenGL? OpenGL.
