annoying problem with read only option

im running windows 7 64 bit
    but a strange problem appeared
i have an external hard drive with a big collection of my movies and some other data
when i turned on to my current operate system after running ubuntu for a long time
i plugged on my hard disk and my data were set to read only i tried to disable it my i couldn't after a lot of tries i succeeded disabling it but after i click back properties it still shows read only i copied all my data to my hard disk i formatted my external as i thought that was the problem but my data keeps set on read only
what i discovered is that only the folders are set to read the data inside the folder are not
i think linux caused that problem
    any solution

Right click the drive letter ... click -> properties -> security -> advanced -> owner ... take ownership of the files under your windows account.

Click into the root of the drive... select all files (CTRL-A), right click, select Properties and uncheck the read only box... when it asks if you want to apply this to all files and folders say "yes"... it may take a while.

    Should solve the problem.

For folders showing up as read only... they aren't. The blue dot (vs a checkmark) merely indicates there are read only files in the folder. As a rule Windows keeps display and thumbnail in hidden/system files in each folder so that's nothing to worry about.

If you want to see these files you can open any folder, click Organize on the toolbar then click folder and search options -> View and do the following...
-- uncheck Hide Extensions for known file types
-- uncheck Hide Protected Operating System files (you will want to re-check this one later)
-- in hidden files select Show Hidden Files Folders and Drives
-- ok your way back to explorer...

i think this is what happening because i can access all my files
