I am a newbie and would like some technical advice please. I have some data coming into my computer via the hyperterminal. This data has been written in Proton Basic. I need to have icons on the computer screen that I can select to send variables from the computer via the hyperterminal. I would very much appreciate any help with this.

Can you show how you need the flow of data to proceed? Your description leaves many questions. As I understand it, you have data coming in from a hyperterminal link. Normal thing might be to have the data go to a buffer or file that you have set up to receive it.
I do not understand what you want with icons on the desktop, in relation to this data.
