a few years back, there somebody posted a challenge here to write a speed optimised game of life, and my search results for this aren't coming up with it.
It was a good thread with the participants attaching their code, and I was trying to uncover it again. Does it ring any bells?
The search functionality here on the boards doesn't allow searching within a particular forum, or so it seems to me.
I recall this thread actually did not have the game of life in the title. Most likely it had "challenge" or "task". I've used the "search within post titles", but still no luck.
pff .. the "advanced" search function is pretty low-powered if the mods don't mind my saying so.
Hang on: when at the root of a certain forum, there is a sub-search (so to speak) function available: this _will_ allow searching within a certain forum.

Well, I found it using "Conway", rather than "life" which I figured would get me nowhere.
Unfortunately, the behavior of the search page is, apparently, part of vBulletin and not something that is configurable. There are several posts (this one for example) on the vBulletin forums asking for this to be fixed. You *can* get a human-readable link to search results if you right-click on the "Search:" link in the upper-left of the results (right above where it lists the keywords).
