I'm considering purchasing a computer with core i3. From reading around, I notice that ubuntu would not run well with the integrated graphic and the computer would hang a lot. Does anyone here experience with that? Do you have any problem with any other linux distro running on a core i3 gig.

I'm not into hardware, but what kind of integrated graphic does an i3 have? I thought it was a processor?

I have been using mine with Ubuntu 10.10 for about 2 weeks now. No problems here.
Some Core i processors have on-chip integrated graphics.I'm not into hardware, but what kind of integrated graphic does an i3 have? I thought it was a processor?

I am on a laptop (Asus U41JF). Just plain Ubuntu 10.10.

I don't personally run Ubuntu and I never ran an Intel Clarkdale processor. I seem to remember from a discussion at the time on the Arch forums (the distro I use) that the Linux kernel started supporting these on version 33.
Now, looking at the timelines, Ubuntu 10.04 was released some 4 months after the Clarkdale, giving enough time for users to start buying machines with these processors. However Ubuntu 10.04 was based on kernel version 32. So it's possible that the reports you heard about problems were due to that. Sometime later as users upgraded to version 33, these problems may have gone away. But to be sure you are better off asking on the Ubuntu forums. We over here use very different distros (which of course can include Ubuntu). But you'd be lucky to find someone here that runs it and did so with a Clarkdale processor and version 10.04. Nevertheless I'm certain that 10.10 runs just fine because it's based on version 35.
Meanwhile, as I was looking at the timelines to compose this post, I also ran across another problem that may indicate why you seem to have heard about issues between Clarkdale processors and Ubuntu (although I never heard of such a thing). It seems Ubuntu 10.04 used a special 32 version with a different drm stack. They actually backported the version 33 drm stack into 32 (source: Ubuntu's kernel team mailing list). They did this, among other reasons, exactly to bring in 10.04 compatibility with the new processors. It's possible that this backport didn't go so well. But again, your best bet is the Ubuntu forums.

I got the machine and put ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on it. It's been running very smoothly. I couldn't be happier. There is no problem with the graphics or frozen screen so far.

It has dual graphics card (integrated + Nvidia). I only use integrated graphics on Linux. Didn't install Nvidia driver. Automatic switching only works in Windows, which is fine with me, because I only play games on Windows.I have question cyberfish, is that Asus U41JF of yours is using the core i3 integrated graphics?

I have tried all versions of ubuntu from 9.10 and above including x64 but no luck.. after the successful installation when I booted to ubuntu only black screen.... I dont know why some of you got it working,..
