Rule #1: never admin a NAS when overtired.
I just wiped out 2 terabytes of data in the blink of an eye. Took 5 years to accumulate. Since I had to put off getting backup storage for this until I got a job, I never did. Thought I was deleting a user from a share and removed the share itself. %^&* web interface.
I feel your pain.
I did something similar a few years ago.
Who would have guessed "reconstruction" in reiserfs means corrupting half the files?!
I have since been running the server on RAID with snapshot backups. On ext3.
just think about the money you saved by not having to rent those 2TB of diskspace from the hosting company for a while!
I also did something similar. I was playing around with GParted and found the "Create Partition Table" button. Click. A window comes up:
Well I didn't read the window because I was just fooling around and I figured it would just add "create table" to the queue but that wasn't the case - so my table was wiped.WARNING: Clicking "create" will immediately create a new table, blah blah...

EDIT: On my only hard drive. With all of my stuff.
Thankfully, though, it was an easy fix. I popped in my Knoppix CD and ran TestDisk. It took all of 1 minute to get my table back.
And by the way TestDisk can fix filesystems too.I just wiped out 2 terabytes of data in the blink of an eye.
It sounds like the data is still on your storage ("blink of an eye" is too fast for an actual zero-out) so maybe recovery tools can get that share back.

Well it might have been a longer blink;it was one of those US Robotics NAS units that sports a web interface.I was in the process of adding a new user to the access list and decided that it was time to get rid of access for machines I no longer own.I thought I had high-lighted a user and clicked delete when.....well this NAS is our main video server for the house and the wife was watching Harry Potter or some such and accidentally dropped and grabbed the remote, mashing the buttons. By the time she got it back on the right channel, the top-level directory was toast and the set-top box I use for this had lost the connection to that share which made me waste more time looking for a network problem....by the time I tumbled to the real problem (waaaay overtired) it was far too late. Ugh. This weekend begins operation restore from...DVD. Meh.
