    Missing shortcut, faulty HD?

    hi,

I installed Dev-C++ on my laptop yesterday and was able to work with it. Today, when I try and open it, I get a 'missing shortcut' error. This has happened one before with Dev-C++ and I just re-installed and it worked.

Do you think this could be a hard drive problem? I've had this hd for about 5 years.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Where does your shortcut think the program installed? Where does your hard drive think the program is installed? Now make those match.

(Or better yet, don't install Dev-C++ (which lives on at sourceforge, but the company/website is dead) in the first place and go with code::blocks instead.)

    Thanks for you advice tabstop.

I'll see if I can match those up tomorrow. Its very late now.

Re: code::blocks - I'll give that a try. Although it means learning a new environment.

I'm pretty sure "typing into a big empty rectangle, with a list of files along the side and messages along the bottom" will seem pretty similar. It is handy when you hit compile and it actually compiles, instead of giving a makefile error, though.

I checked the short cut under start>>programs>>Bloodshed Dev-C++>>Dev-C++ and it links to C:\Dev-Cpp\devcpp.exe. However Dev-Cpp does not exist under C. This is where I think I installed it and this is also the default installation location.

This has confused me, however I'm going to go with your advice and install code:blocks.
