Well every engineer has his or her own list of must-haves. Flexibility in code-formatting is one of mine, seconded only by a *strong* macro recording ability. Yours may be different. Some people cannot list w/o "Intellisense"-like abilities; for me they tend to get in the way. At the end of the day its whatever makes us more productive....

Once that "engineer" stops scratching his bollocks and actually decides to do something for himself and society in general by getting an actual job instead of being a wannabe-loser, he may find his workplace doesn't give a damn to his preferences and he's got to do with what they throw at him.
Flexibility is better.
That said, VIM does what he wants, but this OP "engineer" finds it hard to use... how important did he said column mode was, again? Yeah.
