Question Resolving the POP3/IMAP4 server IP from a domain name?

Using a nameserver lookup of MX records, I can find the destination domain name/IP for sending messages via SMTP.
But this is a little trickier... how do I go about resolving the domain name/IP for a POP3 or IMAP4 server of a given domain name/email account?

DNS doesn't contain that information. The system is setup to tell you where to delivery mail to, not where to pick mail up from.

Right, I knew that, I was wondering if someone here might know how to find out where to 'pick mail up' (even though it doesn't use the DNS).

your email client has to have those settings put in. Theres no automagical way to know where your email comes from without knowing the [email protected]

There is no standard location for it. The mail admin would have to tell you where to get it.

You can always just try the domain name.

I'm beginning to figure that out.
    Thanks

Sure, but the POP/IMAP servers are somewhere else 99% of the time.
