my CPU screams

Hi When i run graphic / cpu intensive progs, my CPU (intel p4 cual core) makes a weird hum sound. like its the cpu fan speeding up, i donno. anyone had a similar experience?

Probably a temperature regulated fan-controller, so your fan-speed is varying depending on the load (or rather the resulting increased temperature) of the CPU.
Quite normal in modern systems.

but it speeds up suddenly at the very moment i start a game or something - no time to heat up i guess. is that normal? and it's pretty loud too. ?

I know the same with my gpu. The time you start a game, the fan speeds up.
Probably, it's the same with yours.
What you can do is replace it with an after market cooler like Zalman.
They cool a lot with low noise.

If you switch on a 60W light bulb, how many seconds does it take before it gets hot? If you then imagine that the 60W light bulb is about the size of your thumbnail, how long would you expect that same process to take? The fact is that a modern processor produces between 60-150W of heat, in an area that is about the size of 10 x 10 mm [a bit bigger on dual/quad core ones].

AFAIK it's a different thing for GPU. GPU fans aren't temperature controlled. The BIOS on the video card keeps several profiles. One profile for maximum 3D performance, one for 2D stuff, one for throttling, etc. Each profile has a set of frequencies, as well as a fan speed. So the moment you switch to the 3D mode (by opening a game), the fan speeds up, even if the GPU is freezing cold.
