Then I guess the Bitmap files should load faster
than the JPEG files as no such algorithm is necessary
    to decompress them.
    Is this correct?
Nope. Drives are slow. CPUs are fast. It's faster to load a small bit of data into memory and decompress it, than to read a large piece of uncompressed data. And this is getting truer every day.
