    deactivation laptop mouse?

I have an old laptop which I want to use for some things, but the mouse on that laptop is all messed up. The mouse pointer jumps around like if its on crack even when no one is touching it.

I think there is an error in the sensor pad which acts as a mouse(not sure what this is really called), so I was wondering if it is possible to de-active it and then just use a USB mouse?

    Thanks

I think the term you're looking for is 'trackpad'. I don't know what the problem is but you might try to use the Mouse properties in the Control Panel (provided your mouse allows you to.) You also might try an excorcisim (or however it's spelled.)

I'm pretty sure this CAN BE DONE, but the "how is it done" would depend on the author of the device driver.

You may be able to get there by using the Device Manager control panel and USB devices, find any "Human Interface Devices" that are there. Or check under "Mice and pointing devices" - I have a "Disable this device" under the Mice and pointing devices for my USB mouse.
