Did you try setting the ship's positions to hardcoded values that would definitely appear on screen? Also, are you sure the code creating a new alien is called? Just some ideas on places to start.

I think you're just asking for an easier way to handle a bunch of objects of the same type (easier than the multidimensional array you're using)? If so, look into std::list. Post back if you need...
