Whats your experience, previous work, etc.?
P.S. Look here!
A quality job is not necessarily a *good* job. A quality job is, by definition, conformance to requirements. Therefore a *good* job, may not be a quality job.
Moved to correct forum.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
Is this a 'for pay' offer, or are you looking for free labor?
I'm betting this is a free labor request, but its a good idea to make games with a group to get experience for doing it for a living. I might be interested in helping. I need a good portfolio piece. As long as I like the idea for the game
A suggestion: Don't make an MMORPG. The industry is already becoming saturated trying to follow WoW's example. Really where it's at is MMOFPS like planetside and only hand full of others. The reason they didn't explode is because the technology at the time. Just an idea because every other person on the internet wants to make an MMORPG or a web comic. Lately I haven't seen any MMORPG's that aren't basically the same gameplay as every other MMORPG. If you think you can make some original things and not just new models and spells then *shudders* go ahead and make it.
My computer is awesome.
Also dont make an MMORPG as your first game because...well its just about the hardest thing you can code, at least game-wise...ever.
STL Util a small headers-only library with various utility functions. Mainly for fun but feedback is welcome.
If you dont have any programming experience then Im going to go ahead and assume that you don't understand the logistics involved with coordinating multiple people on a project.
Im willing to do the networking stuff, but you should know that I have a full time job as a programmer, so I wont be able to spend a regular amount of time on it. The upside is that I have a personal copy of Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise edition. Have you written a proposal yet? I find that writing the proposal puts a lot of the logistics into perspective before you get in over your head. Communication is going to be a big one. You should probably consider getting a teamspeak server, since a lot of issues are more easily communicated by voice rather than by text. You will also need lots of people who arent programmers, but have other technical skills. A good web page designer will be helpful for creating a webpage to get people interested in your game. A good lawyer with experience in dealing with IP issues will probably recommend that you get people to sign some sort of bidirectional NDA. You need a good publisher/distributor to help you with packaging and sales.
You dont need all the extra people right up front, but you will need them if you are going to make a successful game.
well, perhaps we can get a free source control program set up to be accessable through the internet. I have team speak and vent (though team speak is free). I have an art major friend that I could probably convince to help. I also have programmer friend who might be interested, and a journalist friend (for writing, public relations, advertising and some web) that could help. I don't have a lawyer friend or a publisher friend though so we would have to probably distribute it online (either for free with paypal donations suggested or set up a simple ecommerse site).
I actually did some planning for an MMOFPS/RTS in my Object Oriented Analysis & Design class that could serve as a kind of starting point.
I think you guys are getting your hopes a little too high here. Given that the OP (and "frnd") has no programming "experiance" and is "guessing" he is looking for free hire, I'm "guessing" this is just another "oh I love playing WoW, so I think I'll make my own MMORPG today" thread. Just a guess.
You are probably right, which is why I gave him a large dose of reality check. I figure if he hasnt moved on to something else in a week or two I might start writing a few lines of code in my spare time, its not like this project doesnt already parallel my own work. Notice how I didnt offer to do all the graphics or DirectX stuff
There is a tonne of stuff you need to know for creating a MMORPG. It ain't just like looking at a piece of grass. I you want to do 3D you need to learn all about it, and how to code it all together. Start at least by starting to learn a programming language to grab the basics and build yourself a foundation.
> It ain't just like looking at a piece of grass.
It is if your MMORPG is about pieces of grass that grow together and you must battle them against the evil lady bugs .
If you think your idea is so 'fantabouls', don't bother trying to create the game yourself go and sell your idea. But just a word of warning, they'll probably laugh at you
