    First Contact Developer Openings

First Contact, a modification of the game Half-Life 2 is looking for a programmer.

Please take note that First Contact is a non-profit, community based modification. If you are looking to make money by joining this team, please don't contact us. You must also be willing to dedicate yourself to this modification. What we are trying to do is going to take a lot of work, and if we have people working half-heartedly, then there's no point in continuing.

Programmer(s) - We are currently looking for very experienced coders in the fields of game development. We are attempting to push the limits of the Source Engine, Graphically and by game play. Which will require experienced developers in every field. We need people who can code in anything and everything we could possibly want. So if you want to be apart of a great team, and be apart of a great mod, we want you!
    - 2 Years experience
    - Extensive knowlegde in either C/C++,DirectX,Shader Technology
    - 6 moths experience with Source Engine

We have a busy developer team at the moment, but we are lacking a programmer to continue on with our work.

If you are a very skilled programmer and you do not have the experience with the source engine, we can waive that because it is not very hard for programmer to learn.

We are very dedicated and are in dire need of a programmer.

Please contact [email protected] or visit our site at www.firstcontactmod.com.

    DirectX 10 or DirectX 9.0c?

    Shaders? Cg or HLSL?

What is the target version of the pixel shaders and vertex shaders? 1.1,1.3,2.0, or 3.0+?
What kind of effects are you looking to add to the source engine?

    DirectX 9.0c.

The shaders? I have no idea, I'm no programmer, so I'll have to look it up.

We aren't really looking to add really advanced effects, as right now I'm revising the design document.

I'd have to talk most of this over with the design team.

If you want to see some of our work done you can find it at our moddb profile at: http://mods.moddb.com/6602/

Found out that the shaders are:

Shaders are ps1.1, ps1.4, or ps2.0 depending on what hardware you are running on. You can also code up fixed-function shaders for older hardware if you wish.

Thanks for the information. At the moment I'm busy with MFC and DirectX for another project but I wish you luck. Your flash title screen looks amazing and I'd just die if you actually got that planet and sun glare in the game at an interactive frame rate.

I'll keep my eye on you guys for sure. And since I'd like to get into the industry and mods seem to be the fastest way to do that, I may be in contact with you in the future.

    Lots of luck.

    And no worries on experience.

    Industry experience: um...none
    Personal/Hobbyist: um...over 20.
