A web-based game in C? That sounds like a lot of wasted time and effort, when there are other technologies that are much better suited to web development.

Better suited, or easier? Everything we have currently developed was done from the ground up in C and that won't change anytime soon. This game will be related to Bitcoin, but not directly interfacing with any Bitcoin software. The organization has been around for more than 3 years and has several hundred members. Easier arguably means better-suited. I'm not going to change your mind, and I'm not trying to, but web application, no matter how trivial, is not a "rather simple project," in C. Those other technologies were created, in many cases, because of the difficulty of doing it in C.
