Anyways, for anyone distracted, paypal does not hire through an ebay mail account. Reported again...

    Ebay owns Paypal.

There's numerous linked in job adverts for ebay and paypal that use that email address so I let it run. If anyone has any concrete reason to delete this thread can they PM me?

I, too, am a little concerned about the email link. Perhaps there is a more official link to use to send in a resume? I'm not saying this is a ploy to garner private information but with so many of those going around you never know.

It is true that they are hiring, but from what the website told me, a candidate is to login to what amounts to a resource center and upload the resume through that area.

FWIW, the poster's IP address shows up (according to My IP address? Free IP Address tracer and IP address lookup) as belonging to ebay as well.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

I suppose it's a balancing act between prudence and allowing opportunities for members to be made available.

Ultimately, even though email is one of the least secure form of communications out there, any email sent to an '@ebay.com' email address would require an awful lot of effort (altering the MX records for one of the most recognised and active domains in the world) for a hacker to go through to achieve little more than a load of CV's which many people in this field already publish on their blogs or personal websites.

Ultimately, the way this forum works relies on mods to make a call on the validity on what is posted. As I stand, I felt the pitfalls are small compared to the potential benefits to members; therefore, I let it run. If any of the other mods disagree, then please close/delete the thread - either way I wont argue.

Oh, sorry. Didn't notice your reply, Fordy. Not until VirtualAce replied.

To my knowledge, all official Paypal and eBay job adverts link back to the sites respective Careers area at www.ebaycareers.com. Never to an email address. However I don't have any way to confirm this as a fact, short of phoning Paypal offices and ask them to confirm this email address.

But eBay employes sourcers. One of them is one Heena Tripathi. But this person is answering to a different (and corporate-like) email address, heena.tripathi. As you can see on this opening announced on LikedIn.

It's possible that htripathi and heena.tripathi link to the same person. But I would advise anyone answering to be careful; ignore these email addresses and answer directly from eBay careers website would be probably the safest approach. You are right, there's no reason to delete the post. But I find very strange that a corporation the size of eBay, which includes PaylPal, and is so experienced in security and privacy issues on the web, fancies the idea of posting job offerings with such an email address as htripathi when there's apparently already an heena.tripathi. Just doesn't look right.
