I'd just start by installing MySQL and following an online tutorial. There are books, but I would not bother investing in one until you have a grasp of the basics (which is pretty easy) and have a better idea of why you might want one and what you might want from it.

You can also install MySQL to your computer so you can have an on-hand training by yourself while following those tutorials available via net.
