I have a normal screen, it helps to be able to see a lot of 'height' in the code but sometimes
you like to view stuff side by side.
I think I would find the lack of height in widescreen a bit of a problem over all.

first, this should be posted in the C++ forum. wait no, the general non-programming forum.
most widescreens now are about as tall as the common CRT monitors were just a few short years ago. i bought a 22" widescreen about 2 years ago, i think less than that, and now for the same money i can get something like 26" or higher.
point is, there isnt much of a lack of height. often a single line of code can get pretty long so its nice to see everything on one line, rather than carried over to the next.
i imagine this is all personal preference, and depending on how many people reply, i think Godwin's Law may come in to play.
I run mine at 1680 x 1050.
I have no problems with height or width.
I suppose you can make code as wide or as tall as you like, but generally it does grow length ways, I guess these days you can get monitors so cheap it matters little either way, you can't get it all in your field of vision anyway, so the shape of the screen does not matter too much.
I would like a 1600X1200 but they tend to be disproportionately very expensive.
I go for width rather than height. Having more space to write longer lines and align more windows is pretty nice.
Using 1920 x 1200, I have no problem with widescreen at all.
My 22" Widescreen is nestled between 2 19" 4:3 monitors, making one very wide viewing area. It's nice but I'm seriously considering upgrading the 2 19" to widescreens the next time they go on sale here.
Widescreen is too useful. I feel confined working on a 4:3 montor now.
In my search for a widescreen LCD display I actually got mine pretty cheap, relatively speaking. 1440x900 for me. Since everyone's talking about their res I might as well mention what I do with it: I watch a lot of movies more than I do anything else. If I need to write something I just use the Page Width zoom setting. :p
