If you somehow found out a way in your school to access some teacher's computers and you can get the answers to some tests? ;)
Would you just get the answers or just don't do it again and noticy the teachers of the security problem.
well, if the teacher had a copy I would delete the ones on the computer so that no one would be able to get them in the time it would take me to inform the teacher.
but what if it's not hurting anybody and you keep it to yourself?
let me put it this way:
IF I did take the answers and get an A+ on the test then it would go down on record that I can do better then I really could.
so I would then be expected to do really well in areas where I really can't.
I think it would boil down to what school level you are talking about.
It would probably work against you for reasons you stated (people would start to expect more from you). However at the college/university level, you can just say you had a good semester and understood the material very well and it reflected in your grade.
Personally, I'd take 'em and run. Not to cheat mind you, but more as a study guide.
:)
What if it is a test that you can either pass it or fail it?
The morally correct answer is to tell your teacher about the problem and suggest that a new test is written.
Many times a teacher is too lazy to write a new test, but at least an effort was made on your part and you might gain some respect from the teacher. Then again you might get a teacher that gets upset because you were able to obtain them in the first place.
what if it was more than test, for example like 2 more test that you knew you would have to eventually take?
How dumb are some of you people?!?!? Take the answers, miss one or two just to make sure you don't get caught, and DON'T TELL ANYONE. You aren't hurting anybody, you earned the answers. I do not have morals: I cheated on a football pool for the NFL playoffs a few years ago :D , so maybe I'm not the best one to ask. But if you don't get caught, whats the big deal. You get a good grade and that's the end of it.
I would hope that I would inform the teacher. I try to keep a moral and ethical standard, and that is beyond my standards.
The only big deal is the knowlege you don't gain for yourself. Sometimes the best way to remember something is to get it wrong a few times.
I think that people that cheat are cowards. They are afraid to have the courage to learn the material on their own because they feel they are inadequate.
Why do you need to cheat if you know the answers? My last quiz in my computer architecture course was a breeze for me. I studied hard and went through the test as if the answers were already written down on the test. I know the information forward and backwards.
Suppose someone else got the same grade as me by cheating. Who really benefited?
We may see on the following test that requires an excellent understanding of the material from the test prior.
Someday it catches you... cheating is why I am tutoring freshman thru senior kids in things like rational division. My sister was doing it at seven years old.
Grades mean shiznit. Knowlege is power.
can someone please start a thread that doesn't involve a high school drama or "important" question?
Earned, perhaps, if you want to talk nihilistically, but I seriously doubt that any reasonable person would agree that you've earned those answers. The civilizations in history that would agree with you are no longer in existence (Sparta being the obvious example) and never contributed anything to human thought.Quote:

You are hurting people: often tests are curved, and if not, you're still hurting yourself for both the reasons already mentioned in other posts and the fact that cheating is a slippery slope, you'll keep doing it, and if you keep doing it, you will get caught (and if you say you won't be caught then you're easily dismissed as being overly arrogant). Furthermore, you contradict yourself arguing that you would do it because it doesn't hurt people and then saying you have no morals.
Cheap cynicism is a shield hiding a weak personality and narrow vision. Don't be absurd - or better yet, read Camus.
Perhaps I should leave you with another quote from a website you seem to be rather fond of:
"You are an intelligent human being. Your life is valuable for its own sake. You are not second-class in the universe, deriving meaning and purpose from some other mind. You are not inherently evil -- you are inherently human, possessing the positive rational potential to help make this a world of morality, peace and joy. Trust yourself."
Nope. We're just lazy and apathetic.Quote:

This is America's future...We're screwed.
No we're not. It's just that I do not take interest in subjects like Spanish, English, most history, some sciences... but in subjects that do matter to me (comp sci, some science, a little of history...) I am not lazy and apathetic with. I think a lot of people feel that way. Why spend time in something that you dont give a damn about and will never need in the future (like every ..........ing Charles England has had...)
Personally I wouldn't do it. Although, it would be tempting just to have the test as a study guide. You are not going to learn anything by just memorizing the answers but if you spent time trying to understand the material then it could be beneficial. You could just do this with a book though rather than stealing a test so why do it? It's not worth the risk at all. Especially at the college level.
1. You would be expelled.
2. You would lose all tuition money you have paid up to this point.
3. You would have a really really hard time being accepted at any other school with that on your record.
Oh and by the way, most teachers that I have worked for at my school save the last version of the test they gave. They then pull up the old version and change it prior to giving it again. Usually they do it just a day or two before the exam. That would suck wouldn't it :D
Let's say it's a more of a book report than a test, what would be your take on this?
Is this a hypothetical question, or what?
You're right, you shouldn't have to learn those subjects. You don't have the type of mind required to appreciate their value.Quote:

It is to a certain extent.
Yeah, learning the subjunctive in spanish is a really important and interesting subject. Where would I be without it? I guess you're right. And what would I do if i didn't know the capital of Somalia and what the Lytic and Lysogenic cycles do?Quote:

My point exactly; some people have a more unified understanding of life where each of those individual elements is significant. You don't have the ability to appreciate that. It's not your fault, but don't believe that you are the absolute judge of a subject's value.
Let's say it was just a book report of a book that is not really interesting to you......I mean I enjoy reading but some books especially those Oprah crap book that they make me read I don't like them, they're too touchy if you know what I mean....then what then?
Then I say read it and do your report... It's not like a touchy-feely book'll make you start feeling like redecorating, if you catch my drift. You're going to have to do a lot of things in life that you don't like. Put your head down and go through it or sit and watch it go by, but don't complain that just because a book's recommended by someone you don't like, that you don't wanna do it.
