Borland C++Compiler help
I have followed all the instructions and have double checked them all but when i run the shortcut i made on my desk top it comes up with this.
C:\WINDOWS>PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55
C:\WINDOWS>DOSKEY /INSERT
'DOSKEY' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:\WINDOWS>
Can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong???
-
You overwrote the path. You need to ADD those directories to the path, not just replace the path with them. Unless Windows has some kind of implicit path that's always supposed to work?
-
>PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55
The above line should be:
PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55;%PATH%
Or:
PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;%PATH%
-
Boreland C++
I put this in notepad
PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55;%PATH%
DOSKEY /INSERT
and saved it in
C:\Borland\BCC55
as
StartBC.cmd
but when i run the short cut from the desktop it comes up with this
C:\WINDOWS>PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55;C:\Borland\BCC55
C:\WINDOWS>DOSKEY /INSERT
'DOSKEY' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:\WINDOWS>
The target for my short cut is
%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /k C:\Borland\BCC55\StartBC.bat
-
>'DOSKEY' is not recognized as an internal or external command
You might have to reboot as this point. You might try opening up a Command Prompt (from the Start menu, Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt) and typing the command:
HELP DOSKEY

New Problem
I have gotten that working (thank you so much for your help).
But now when i type in
bcc32 bcc1.cpp
It shows
C:\WINDOWS>bcc32 bcc1.cpp
Borland C++ 5.5.1 for Win32 Copyright (c) 1993, 2000 Borland
bcc1.cpp:
Turbo Incremental Link 5.00 Copyright (c) 1997, 2000 Borland
Fatal: Illegal option: X
So it won't work. everything else before that has worked so can you please tell me what to do.

What does your ilink32.cfg in the bin directory look like?

Help
how do i find out??? I found it but i can't open it in notepad
-
You should be able to right-click on it in Windows Explorer, and do a Send-To, and send it to Notepad or Wordpad. Or right-click, and do Open With, and choose either Notepad or Wordpad.
-
I can't. there is no open with i can only send it to different folders
-
By the way, I would highly recommend you download another compiler. My recommendations for free ones are DevC++ or Code::blocks. These are actually IDEs, but they include a compiler (g++). I enjoy DevC++, but code::blocks is favored by many, and is being updated daily. Here are the links:
www.bloodshed.net
www.codeblocks.org

>there is no open with i can only send it to different folders
Can you double-click it in Windows Explorer? Once you double-click on it (ilink32.cfg), it should come up with a dialog box so you can choose an editor to open it.
-
when i double click on it it says
C:\WINDOWS>PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\Bo
rland\BCC55\bin
C:\WINDOWS>DOSKEY /INSERT
C:\WINDOWS>BCC32 BCC1.CCP
Borland C++ 5.5.1 for Win32 Copyright (c) 1993, 2000 Borland
Error E2194: Could not find file 'BCC1.CCP'
C:\WINDOWS>
I typed all the info in again and then saved it with the same name this is what i typed
-v-
-x
L"C:\Borland\BCC55\LIB;C:\BORLAND\BCC55\LIB\PSD K
-
According to the FAQ, there is no line with X in this file. It should look like:
-
-
and i have saved it under C:\Borland\BCC55
-
By the way my ilink32.cfg is only one line. It looks like:
-L"c:\Borland\Bcc55\lib"
See the FAQ entry http://faq.cprogramming.com/cgi-bin/...&id=1043284351 which contains the one I posted above.
-
Well your StartBC.cmd contains this:
PATH=C:\Borland\BCC55\BIN;C:\Borland\BC C55;%PATH%
DOSKEY /INSERT
Your ilink32.cfg contains this (plus more stuff if you want):
-L"c:\Borland\Bcc55\lib"
-
>and i have saved it under C:\Borland\BCC55
Yeah, that's where the StartBC.cmd file goes. And the ilink32.cfg goes under the BIN directory.
-
it works now thank u so much
-
>it works now thank u so much
Whew, you're welcome, glad to hear. :)
-
There is another problem. I have saved SC1 in the bin section as well as the SciTEGlobal.properties and changed the starBC.bat. now when i open the short cut SC1 opens as well as the command prompt. When i try to compile inside Sc1 (like it says in the instructions) the compile button is grayed out. what have i done wrong??? although every other step has worked perfectly.
-
Well I wish I could help you. I just downloaded SciTE (SC1.EXE) and tried running it by adding START C:\BORLAND\BCC55\BIN\SC1.EXE to the StartBC.bat, and I got an error:
BC1.EXE is not a valid Win32 application. The SciTE editor never popped up.
But anyway, make sure you have the SciTEGlobal.properties file in the bin directory is about all I can tell you. It sounds like it's not seeing this file for some reason.
-
how do i put it in the bin directory
-
>how do i put it in the bin directory
What directory is it in now? From Windows Explorer, hover over the file, hold down the right mouse button, and drag the file to the bin directory. There are other ways also, like simply copying and pasting the file.
-
what format should it be saved as???
-
>what format should it be saved as???
I just checked, it's simply a text file. You can view it from any editor.
-
You are probably getting a .txt added to the end of the filename (SciTEGlobal.properties.txt). To avoid that, right-click on the link, and choose Save Target As... When the dialog pops up, change Save as type: to All files. Make sure to save it to the bin directory.
-
Another way to avoid adding an extension (for some editors) is to put double quotes around the filename; i.e., type "SciTEGlobal.properties". I think it works with notepad.
-
Yeah, that should work too. Of course I would also recommend a different compiler. I gotta admit this SciTe editor looks interesting. I think it's only 200Kb, which can be a nice alternative to fancier editors.
-
I use an oldish version of it all of the time. It's my most used editor after Dev-C++ (for Windows). No particular reason, except that there's a nice convenient shortcut on my taskbar, and I can launch it many times. :)
-
i am getting Dev C++ instead i am tired of Borland
