I don't have a compiler on me ... what does it do? How does the #define with the /**/ handle? I'm assuming you're talking about the color coder (go for this one. It's much better Color Coder v2.0 (C++).) rather than the linked list :) forgot the oftopic tags ;)

codeform handles it pretty well, but not perfectly. It's still a work in progress.

I posted the code into the colour coder you mentioned, and it locked into an infinite loop.

At least codeform just messes up, it doesn't freeze my computer.

I've never made a linked list. Never saw the point with vectors and lists anyways. I'm thinking I may try though ... :/ not sure if it's worth the time though. It's not gonna be as good as the STL

Yes, actually. Somewhere I saw something like "it may lock into an infinite loop, allocating memory infinitely. If this happens, quickly launch task manager by right-clicking on the taskbar, find Color Coder, and click on end task." Really. I'm not kidding. And the source code isn't available for it, so we can't help fix it.

I don't know, it's either C or C++. I can't remember. Find Dwks' post where he talks about Code Form, and download the ZIP. It's got all the source there.

Why make it OS? I don't know. I think it's a good thing to do - people can learn from your code. They can suggest different ways of doing things. Ask about algorithms.

The reason I voted no is not because they are useless. Because I thought script may not be helpful. Don't get angry of me, change my vote if it is really that important.

I am now making big changes to my painter. It will have an option dialog, and will have capability to add or remove keywords. Its code can go muchbetter than this. I will make it better, then I open it source.

mrafcho001: Ok, so you are selfish when it comes to your code... the only reason I could ever see not going OS is when it is a proprietary project that would be hard to sell support for. These programs I assume are never going to marketed other than free.

Also the reason you want others to be able to look at your code... consider where the linux project would be without the thousands of people who have worked on it. I have found bugs in OS software, found out how to fix it, and sent the diff in to the manager of the project. That is one less bug they have to worry about.

mrafcho001: If you want to stick to your code in a pathetique display of intelectual property, be my guest. Probably your code is just too good for everyone else. You are a guru and your techniques are very valuable trade secrets. I'm sure you are serious in your attempt to make money out of your code. Yeah.

Probably not long... wouldn't be hard to make something that parses text then puts [color=#<random 6hex number>]<letter>[/color]. Assuming because the spaces have color tags too... this is what was done.

It looks okay, but (besides the redundant double quotes) I think that it worked by a fluke, detecting /*//*/ as two separate comments, /*/ and /*/, judging by the colouring. Try this:

Should be what - few hundred lines of ANSI standard C or C++. There's nothing in the problem which warrants dragging around 1.5MB of vendor specific crap just to do a bit of text processing.

Kinda thing.

Whilst it lacks the pretty colours of your interface (oohhh, aaaahhh), its simple and gets the job done, and is actually more useful in the long run as it is far simpler to integrate with other tools (including wrapping a GUI around it if you wanted to).

So there is only one way.
I have to seperate the UI and the main program completely, make UI platform specific and main part portable.

It is not hard to be done. In my current design they are seperated. The only thing I have to do is erasing res before the Painter class and using string instead of String^.

There is just a little problem in seperation. Program keeps keywords in managed ArrayLists. Now I thing I should use native lists. It involves changing the whole code.

As much as possible, most of the code should be as standard as possible. System dependencies should be hidden with internal interfaces to keep the standard code away from the system dependent code.

Ah yes, the M$ way, to tempt you with lots of nice sweets which lock you into doing things their way. If your software has to be maintained over years or decades, it doesn't make sense to take a short cut which saves you 5 minutes today.

.NET is not the best language to develop such a small project. It forces users to download an humungus runtime and it removed the chance of portability.

If Siav intention in building this project is to learn the programming language than he can, and should have by now, say as much. It would avoid him the embarassement this thread already took. Nobody would then have questioned it as much as they did.

Just throwing this word out there: 'Mono'

While it will almost never be as good as the real thing, it can preform decently on other systems from what I hear.

Are you sure? So lets see the DETAILED answer.

If I didn't want to use .Net, I had to use MFC. I choosed .Net:
-I don't know any portable UI like wxWidgets.
-.Net is supposed to be portable, MFC wont be.
-I know .Net enough to create a Windows form.
-.Net programs are easy to write. So it saves development time so much.
-Last reason is that I wanted to practice .Net.

About the UI it was needed, about the codePainter class (that contains the functions for tagging code) it was an option. Now it seems that std C++ is needed for that class.
